Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) – This is a special procedure in which embryos are evaluated for genetic abnormalities prior to being transferred into the uterus during IVF. This procedure is not offered at all fertility clinics because it is technically very difficult requiring experienced personnel. PGT is being widely used these days to prevent the transfer of abnormal embryos that would normally not create a pregnancy, end in a miscarriage, or allow a possible birth of an infant with a chromosomal disorder, such as Down’s syndrome. PGT can beq useful for couples that have a known risk of passing on an inherited disease to a child.
