Not finding a cause for fertility difficulty (unexplained infertility) can be very frustrating to the patient. Fortunately, the Fertility Institute of Hawaii has two of the leading infertility treatment experts.  Utilizing cutting-edge protocols and technology, Dr. John Frattarelli, Dr. Anatte Karmon, and Dr. Emily Goulet have evaluated and treated many women in Hawaii and elsewhere for unexplained infertility.

Unexplained infertility is the failure to determine a cause of infertility after a thorough evaluation of both the male and female partner. Approximately 15% of infertility is unexplained. The evaluation of such a couple begins with a comprehensive review of all testing and treatment performed to date. It is not uncommon to uncover evidence within this past evaluation that may in fact document a cause of reproductive inefficiency.

A laparoscopy may help in the diagnosis of unexplained infertility as sometimes conditions such as endometriosis and pelvic scarring can be found. True unexplained infertility may be related to egg and sperm dysfunction, among other causes. These conditions are difficult to establish through conventional testing. However, unexplained infertility can be successfully and safely treated through ovulation induction with intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, or related techniques.
