Partnership with Donor Egg Bank USA

Frozen Donor Egg Bank Services are Now Available

Fertility Institute of Hawaii is proud to announce that it has partnered with Donor Egg Bank USA to provide frozen donor egg bank services.  Donor Egg Bank USA is the nation’s only frozen donor egg program to be developed through a collaboration of more than 100 reproductive specialists throughout the United States. Donor Egg Bank USA was created to assist fertility patients in their dream of having a baby with the added convenience of a quicker, more affordable treatment process.

Under the direction of John L. Frattarelli, MD, Medical, Practice & Laboratory Director, Fertility Institute of Hawaii, is one of the founding partners for Donor Egg Bank USA and is the only participating clinic in Hawaii. As part of a large global network, patients of the Pacific now have ethnic and racial accessibility to a diverse donor egg pool. Our patients are able to continue to pursue family building options here in Hawaii using donor eggs that may not be readily accessible in the islands, but that can be conveniently found within our network of specialists throughout the nation.

Using frozen donor eggs allows women who cannot produce their own viable eggs the opportunity to carry and deliver a child. During the process, donor eggs are retrieved from a donor, frozen, and banked. Frozen donor eggs are then fertilized with a partner’s or donor’s sperm, and transferred into the womb of the waiting mother-to-be.

In the past, traditional egg donor methods required first synchronizing the donor’s and recipient’s menstrual cycles, and then retrieving eggs and transferring fertilized embryos. The necessity for synchronization results in significant time delays and use of resources. A traditional (fresh) donor egg cycle can cost up to $40,000 and take up to 12 months to complete. A frozen donor egg cycle can be completed in as little as one to two months for typically less than half the cost.

An innovative fast-freezing technology called vitrification has transformed fertility treatment capabilities, making the viability of frozen eggs similar to that of fresh eggs. Today, eggs can be collected, frozen, and banked, making them immediately available to recipients who select them from a donor database.

Donor Egg Bank USA offers patients the same baby delivery success rates as most traditional (fresh) donor egg programs. In summary, the advantages of using Donor Egg Bank eggs include: recipients cycle when it is convenient for them, there is an immediate cycle start, significantly lower cost than a traditional donor cycle, and fewer cancelled cycles.
